I was elected as a Full Member of Guildford Art Society in 2007 and have been an Exhibiting Member of Farnham Art Society since 2002. I have exhibited with Fleet Art Society since moving to Church Crookham in late 1999. I have had work shown at the Vivartis Autumn Arts Festival at King Edward’s School in Witley, Surrey. In Summer 2008, I had two paintings accepted for The Art of Water Open Exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery.
My work is mixed media, including acrylic, watercolour and collage. I have recently taken up printmaking with shorts courses at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. I've purchased a small roller press to develop and experiment with monoprinting, collagraphs and drypoint. I'm largely a self-taught artist but have benefited greatly from the course, workshops and critiques tutored by professional artists, run by the art societies mentioned above and the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham .
I am particularly attracted to painting river and coastal scenes. Over the past few years, I have been subtly incorporating text into some of my paintings which is relevant to the picture, suggesting an additional message beneath the scene; perhaps about a potential threat to the landscape such as climate change. I trained as a scientist, with a Biochemistry degree from the University of Southampton. I have subsequently developed a keen interest in Earth and Environmental Sciences. I have studied geology with the Open University and belong to the Open University Geological Society. Here, I've gained some fascinating insights into how the landscape has been shaped through time. I'm keen to develop this theme in my artwork.
