Born in Berlin during the war, Lisa was a pupil of Hans Goetsch, a painter well known at the time for his realistic, strong landscapes of post war Berlin .
She married in 1965 and moved from Berlin to England with her husband. Eventually she started painting in earnest, once their 2 children were at school and, like Hans Goetsch, Lisa is painting what she sees and her lines are strong. But she also uses vibrant colours. Her particular interest in life drawing continues with its challenge of interpreting her own visual response to this most fascinating landscape of all. Nature is always her source of inspiration, which remains apparent even in abstract works. She says: “art is artificial by definition and cannot equal nature’s infinite abundance - where even in death and cruelty it reveals extraordinary beauty”. It is that beauty she looks for and misses in much of contemporary art. Painting is for her an unconscious, visual dialogue, which should also involve the person who looks at it.
