Jane Roberts retired from the University of Surrey in 2003 with the intention of devoting as much time as possible to painting. She has attended summer schools at Chelsea College of Art and Design and West Dean College and for the past five years has been working with tutors at Guildford Adult Education Centre.

Her preferred media are oils, charcoal and acrylics. She enjoys drawing from life and has explored portrait, landscape and printing techniques, using mixed media. She has also experimented with abstract representations, translating musical compositions into colours, textures and shapes on canvas. Her most recent work has involved the use of larger canvases and much of it has been inspired by images of the earth taken from NASA satellites.

Her work has been chosen by Guildford Borough Council to advertise International Women’s Day in 2005 and this summer one of her pictures was selected to hang in the Bankside Gallery as part of the EAC Over 60s Art Awards Exhibition 2008.

She has recently taken part in a successful exhibition of abstract paintings at the Harvey Gallery with three colleagues from the Adult Education Classes at Sydenham Road , Guildford .
