BRENDA MacKINNON SFP

BRENDA MacKINNONhas been studying art forms for over forty years, initially producing sculpture, batik work and painted silk, designing and creating silver jewellery. Painting followed, with tuition from Mary Hackney PS and her daughter Clare in watercolour and pastel, with courses in acrylic and mixed media later. She is a regular student with various art tutors at the Earnley Concourse.

The subjects for her paintings are diverse. Nature in all its forms is a great inspiration for Brenda, with its beauty seen in close detail as well as in various interpretations of flowers and landscapes, and also high-impact textured abstracts. As a printmaker her work includes dry point, lino printing, nonotypes and collagraphs.

Having studied Oriental Art and Civilisation ( London University ) and later attending a short course in Shanghai at the College of Fine Art , Brenda has considerable knowledge of the arts of China and Japan , having spent time in both countries.

She has exhibited with the Society of Women Artists in London, is an elected member of the Society of Floral Painters and an exhibiting member of Guildford and Farnham Art Societies.

For the 2009 Guildford Festival, to help promote the town Brenda produced a montage painting of many of its well-known locations and street sculptures, and this is on sale as prints and cards in the town centre, at the cathedral and the university.
