Sally Gorton

I studied at West Surrey College of Art and Design and Epsom School of Art. For many years I have enjoyed working in watercolour, pastel and mixed media and more recently I have started to use water-based oil paints. My subjects can often be described as a portrait; an interesting building, an old window, the glimpse of a garden, an arresting face or a sleeping animal. Sometimes I like to venture off the beaten track – you may spot me on an old black bicycle with a large wicker basket, stocked with sandwiches, camera and sketch book… I taught privately and (sometimes) in Adult Education for around fifteen years, and am currently available for ‘beginners/improvers’ tuition at my home near Godalming. I take some commissions, particularly for portraits of people, pets and buildings and I also give illustrated talks to groups and societies. These tell the story of how certain paintings were created, accompanied by some lively anecdotes!  I have exhibited with Guildford Art Society at Guildford House and have shown my work at many other venues including Cranleigh Arts Centre, Watts Gallery at Compton, The Harvey Gallery, Guildford and Vivartis exhibition.
