The Guildford Art Society: Artists : Sheila Corby

SHEILA CORBY first studied art seriously during a posting to Hong Kong in the early eighties while teaching English. She attended Hong Kong University to study Chinese painting and watercolour. On retiring to the UK , she went full-time to obtain teaching qualifications at Guildford Technical College .

Sheila started working in the late 80’s at major Adult Education centres in Woking , later extending to Guildford , Farnham, Godalming, Cobham and Esher . She has recently started her own private classes.

She received the Dome Flower Painting Award in 2002, in Guildford House Gallery, and in 2005 won the Chairman’s Award Public Picture Vote also with Guildford Art Society. She has recently been on its judging committee. Sheila has made pastel her main preoccupation since first studying the medium and being fascinated by its vibrancy and immediacy. She has been accepted by the Pastel Society in the Mall Gallery for the past three years. Future plans are to continue her private teaching indefinitely and to become a member of the Pastel Society.
