Colin Wilson, OBE, GAvA
I have always loved drawing and painting and during a long career in the aerospace industry, painted for pleasure at every spare moment.
Aviation subjects featured in much of my early output and in 1962 I joined the Kronfeld Aviation Art Society and won the Best Newcomer Prize at my first exhibition showing. In 1971 the group reformed as the Guild of Aviation Artists and I exhibited regularly at their London exhibitions at the Qantas, Carrisbrook and Mall Galleries.
In 1976, I was elected a Full Member (GAvA), and there followed commissions for the Indian Navy, the MoD, RAF College Cranwell, the United States Marine Corps, and many private collectors.
As well as my aviation interest, I have always loved the English countryside and painting in oils, I like to capture the seasons on the landscape with a particular fondness for marshland and sky and river and estuary environs.
When living in Japan from 1994 t0 2000, I began painting urban scenes with the added challenge of densely peopled town/cityscapes. I exhibited at Kobe in 1996, `97 and `98, and again successfully sold to private collectors.
In 2007 I had work accepted for the 120 th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, (ROI) and in 2008 was invited to exhibit at the Yvonne Arnaud Summer Exhibition.
I am a Full Member of both Guildford and Farnham Art Societies and exhibit regularly with these groups and also Haslemere and Midhurst.
I also exhibit at Vivartis in their highly regarded Autumn Exhibition and was demonstrated, ` a landscape in oils` at the 2009 Haslemere Festival celebrating the towns close association with Lord Tennyson.
